Crosby, Reginald Clifton, “Reg” 87, of Waverley, passed away May 12, 2013. Born in Dartmouth, NS. He was the son of Dr. Reg and Tina Crosby. Reg grew up in Dartmouth, NS; Davidson, SK; Kirkland Lake, ON; and Kentville, NS. In 1944, Reg joined the Canadian Army Light Infantry. As a corporal, in Canada and England he trained troops in bayonet use, gas mask drills, and bren-gun carrier maneuvers. After the war, he returned to Acadia University and graduated in Arts and Education in 1950. Then he traveled to England, to play in the English and Scottish Hockey Leagues. In 1951, Reg was invited to play and coach with the Bern Switzerland hockey team, however he returned home to help with his father’s affairs due to illness. After his father passed away in 1953, Reg returned to education. He taught and administered in Waverley, Woodside, Armdale, and Halifax. He was also Supervisor of Curriculum in Halifax County West and Bedford sub-systems. During this time Reg was instrumental in introducing music to the program. One of his fondest memories was as a principal in the early 1960’s when he won a MGB in a Cadbury chocolate bar contest. It took a week to drive every student around the block in the new red car. Later in his career, Reg was extremely supportive of graduate students. He was always a sportsman, from his youth in hockey, soccer, rugger, basketball, softball track and field, to more senior sports in tennis, paddling, swimming, and golf. He was especially proud of more recently being inducted into the Acadia University Hockey Hall of Fame. Reg is survived by his wife of 56 years, Carol (Woodworth) former RN, and two sons; Jamie (Lori) Bedford and John, Edmonton, as well as granddaughters; Emily and Robyn. Reg thoroughly enjoyed his 50 years in Waverley with Carol and the boys. There were numerous dinner parties (many girls to hug), much piano playing, tinkering projects with manly friends, gardening, snow plowing, Saturday wood cutters lunches, and Waverley Gold Rush Days (a co-founder). Reg even had his own 3-hole golf course on the site of the old gold mines. Reg loved golf. His boys were brought up with it and he was a long-term member of Oakfield. His most favourite excursions were White Point with the boys and Clyde River with Wilfred and Marjorie. Summers were filled with special camping trips to PEI (Marco Polo Land) and Keji as well as sailing with family and friends. A favourite memory was at Soldiers Lake where Carol upset the canoe with all aboard. Reg was truly “a people person” who really enjoyed social gatherings. He was often the life of the party. Reg had many dear friends throughout his life. He will be missed by all those who knew him, especially his loving family. Cremation has taken place under the direction of J. A. Snow Funeral Home. A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
