Dad passed away in the QEII Infirmary from pneumonia on Oct 9th ,2026. Thank you to Dr. Williams and the nursing team on Floor 8.4 for taking such great care of Dad and for your dedication and compassion.
Born in Bear River East 92 yrs ago to the late Lovett and Jennie Brown. He started his career with the Willett Fruit Company in Kentville and retired from the Bolands Lakeside location after 45 yrs as a dedicated and respected member of the office team. He held many positions throughout his career, one of the main ones according to his coworkers was Chief Morale Officer.
Music was a major part of Dad's life. From a young age I always remember music being in our home. He was a proud supporter of local bluegrass bands and festivals, volunteering his time and making many good friends and memories along the way. He was also a member of the Downeast Bluegrass and Old Time Music Society for many years. He will be missed arriving at the Bluegrass festivals with his little "Burro " camper ready for a weekend of music, friendship and good times. Music bought so much joy to him and those memories will live on in the hearts of the many people who knew him in the bluegrass community.
He was a man of routine and could be found at the Canada Games Centre early in the morning with his gym crew working out, socializing and perhaps a bit of joking around. He really loved this place and the people who made it so special. Afterwards he was often seen zipping into one of the local coffee shops in his white Mazda truck (Lil' Hurricane) with the fancy rims and detailing to enjoy a coffee and a chat with the patrons.
Dad was a kind and caring person who treated people with respect, no matter their circumstances or station in life. He was the kind of guy who would help someone who needed it without making a fuss about it. He had a good heart and those who knew him will remember him for his generosity, his love of people and his own special way of doing things.
Rick will be greatly missed by his daughter Teena and her partner Vincent Smith (Halls Harbour) Sisters Debby (Doug) Miller (Smith's Cove) Sherry (Bill) Brown (Digby) and Cheryl Durling (Bridgetown)
He was predeceased by his parents Lovett and Jennie Brown. Sisters Marion Macdonald, Juanita Fraser, Pat Walsh, brother James Brown and dear longtime friend Anthony Metlege.
I would like to mention some very special people in Dad's life. Jim Harding and Cheryl Parnell (friends till the end) Jenn Cordin, Dad thought the world of you, Cecily, Jess, Louie and Nola, friends and neighbors on Evans Ave, and Dad's long time" Halifax "family and dear friends Tony Metlege and family.
