Rita Gertrude Burke

Burke, Rita G. – 86. It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear Mother, Rita, on Sunday, June 22nd at the QEII. Born in Halifax, she was the daughter of the late Lucy (Purcell) and Sidney Hartling. She will be missed by all who knew her, especially by son, Gary (Joan) Edmonton, loving daughters, Linda (Kenny) Houghton, Mary Lou (Brian) Webster, and Nancy Burke, Halifax, nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, as well as extended family including nieces, nephews, loving cousin Jeanne MacDonald, and special friends Aleta Spampinato and Anne Beasant. She was predeceased by her loving husband Leo Francis, two brothers Reginald and Charles Hartling, sister, Mary Edna & special brother-in-law, Patrick Burke, husband of Edna. She worked at Veteran Affairs & later enjoyed many years working at Simpsons. She was a member of St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church. Mom was gentle, kind & loving & her greatest joy was being with family. Special thanks to the QEII & Northwood Homecare for the care provided. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 25th, 6-9 PM, J.A. Snows Funeral Home, Lacewood Drive. A celebration of her life will be held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, June 26th at Saint Benedict Roman Catholic Church. Father Michael Grace officiating. Reception to follow in Saint Benedict Centre. Burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to a charity of choice.
