Rita Frances Simms

SIMMS, Rita Frances – 78, of Halifax. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Rita Frances (Tobin) Simms, who passed away at the QEII, on June 19, 2012. Rita was born in Halifax, a daughter of the late Donald and Theresa (Finn) Tobin. Rita is survived by her children Donald (Penny) Dartmouth; Daniel (Wanda) Halifax; Colleen (Dale) Newfoundland; her grandchildren Sean, Patrick, Caroline, Julia, Eason and and Jermaine. Her brothers Patrick (Jane) New York, Dennis (Anne) Lower Sackville; also her long-time companion and beautiful cat Bee and several nieces and nephews and many other beloved friends. Rita was predeceased by her husband Eldridge and son Darrell; as well as her sisters Kathleen and Caroline and brothers Leonard and Donald. Rita had many jobs over the years, but she most enjoyed working at Saint Margaret’s Bay Animal Hospital where she worked for many years. Rita also enjoyed travelling and had a kind and loving heart. With such a beautiful spirit, she was always willing to lend a hand and do anything for anyone. She truly was one of a kind and will be missed by all who knew her. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr., Halifax (902) 455-0531 on Sunday, June 24th from 2-4 & 6-8pm. A celebration of Rita’s life will be held at Saint Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, Brunswick Street on Monday, June 25th at 10am. Reception to follow. Interment to take place at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville, N.S. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or SPCA, or Bide Awhile Animal Shelter. It is said that when a person leaves the earth, they become a star.
