Roy Doty Pugh, A.I.I.C., (22 Sep, 1928 -13 Feb, 2012) died peacefully at home while resting comfortably in his favourite chair. Following 46 years with the Nova Scotia Bureau of Insurance Underwriters, (then Insurers Advisory Organization), Dad retired in 1993 as Manager, Atlantic Region. He spoke often and fondly of colleagues, associates, and experiences from this time. He became a council member of the Nova Scotia Insurance Institute in 1958 and received the Award of Merit in 1983 for his efforts in implementing a lecture/discussion group program in Nova Scotia, and serving as the Chairman of the Agents Qualifications Committee, the Public Speaking Committee and Nominating Committee for many years. He was a lifetime member of the Maritime Fire Chiefs Association. He was most proud of his involvement with the Waverley Fire School, now the Nova Scotia Firefighter School. Dad was a member of Sheffield Baptist Church for over 60 years and served in a variety of capacities. He was predeceased by parents Harold and Edna, a brother Ray and sister Elsa (both in infancy), sister Gloria and brother-in-law Willis Mullen, sister-in-law Betty Lou (Ron), nephew Paul, and wife Maureen Walsh. He is survived by brothers Don (Nancy) and Ron of Dartmouth; children Linda (Laurence) Hickey, Bedford; Harold, Bedford; Christine Burris, Bedford; Celeste (Scott) Latter, Orleans, Ontario; grandchildren Theresa (Tyler) Bennicke, John, Kathleen and Brian; and nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind close friends Faye and Wendy, their husbands and children. There will be no visitation at Dad's request. Cremation has taken place and will be followed by a family graveside committal service at a future date in Riverside Cemetery, Weymouth North, Digby County. In the spirit of Dad's lifelong generosity to many and varied charities, donations to your charity of choice would be appreciated. Condolences can made by visiting www.jasnowfuneralhome.com
