Sarah "Elaine" Kyle

Age 95, of Halifax died on September 29, 2026 at Orchard Court Care Home in Kentville. Born in Port Mouton, Elaine was the daughter of the late Aubrey Leslie and Leah Winters. She was predeceased by her husband Gordon Kyle, her brother John Leslie and her sister Isabel Leslie. She is survived by son John (Kerry), Salt Spring Island, BC and daughter Jane, New Minas.

Elaine graduated from Liverpool High School, the Provincial Normal College and Mount Allison University and went on to pursue studies in education, counselling and creative thinking at the University of Victoria. She began her teaching career in Liverpool. Following her marriage to Gordon and while living in England, she taught English at a secondary modern school in Hebburn-on-Tyne. Later she taught English, French and Resource at schools in Victoria, BC.

Elaine was a generous, caring woman who shared her leadership gifts professionally and with the church and community wherever she lived. She was a lifelong learner and a trusted mentor to many. As a member of the United Church of Canada, she served on boards and committees at the local church, presbytery and conference levels and was a life member of the United Church Women. Over the years she was also actively involved in the following community organizations: Girl Guides of Canada, Council of Women, Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia, Victoria Hall, Coverdale Centre, Coverdale Foundation and Windsor Elms Village. She was a charter member of the Inner Wheel of Halifax Northwest.

Family and friends were very important to Elaine who was known for her warm hospitality. Many enjoyed her creative tables, meals (especially the desserts) and conversation. Her interests included travelling, theatre, ballroom dancing, music, rug hooking, baking, gardening and exploring nature’s parks and trails.

Elaine’s family would like to thank the incredibly kind and caring staff at Orchard Court for making her last three years full of music, laughter and good food.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of JA Snow Funeral Home and a private committal service will be held at a later date.
