Shirley Laurette Brown, 82, died peacefully at home in Aberdeen Hall, Halifax, on March 11, 2018. Shirley was born on June 16, 1935, to the late Robert and May (Mountifield) Brown in Edmonton, AB. She moved across Canada living in Jasper, AB, Winnipeg, MB, and Montreal, QC, before settling in Moncton, NB. Shirley attended Moncton High and was a star basketball player in the youth community league. After graduating from high school, Shirley began working for the Canadian National Railway and remained there for 36 and a half years. She was a gifted pianist, loved watching her favourite soap operas and enjoyed painting. Shirley was the primary caregiver for her mom until her mom's death in 1999. A few years later, Shirley moved to Halifax to live in an apartment at Aberdeen Hall. She continued to enjoy watching her soap operas, going to pub nights and attending mass at Bradford Hall as often as she could. Shirley is survived by her brothers, Robert (Jean) Brown and Michael (Sylvia) Brown, Halifax, NS, and her sister, Brenda (Ian) MacDonnell, Victoria, BC. She will be dearly missed by her 19 nephews and nieces, many great-nephews and great-nieces as well as several great-great nephews and great-great nieces. She was predeceased by her parents, her sister, Jo-Ann Sincennes and great-nephew, Vincent Barry. The family would like to thank Dr. Verma, Dr. Loban and the staff at Aberdeen Hall for their wonderful care of Shirley over these past years. Visitation will be held at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr., Halifax, on Wednesday, March 14, from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. Funeral mass will be held at St. Thomas Aquinas, Halifax, on March 15, at 10:30 am with Fr. Bernard O'Neil officiating. Interment will take place at a later date in Moncton, NB. Donations may be made to the Ovarian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
