Born in Cheticamp, she was the eldest daughter of Placide and Eulalie Doucette. Sophie lived with her husband and young family in New Waterford, NS before moving to Halifax where she worked at Camphill Veteran’s Hospital for many years. She enjoyed playing cards, yelling “bingo”, visiting the Casino, telling the odd joke and spending time with her cherished family.
She is survived by her daughters Lorraine (Arthur) Sampson, Louisdale, Lillian (Frank) Morris, Halifax, and Rose (Vance) Gorman, Winnipeg; grandchildren Debbie, Danny, Cindy, Michelle, Robert, Charlene, Steven and Christine; great-grandchildren Neil, Trevor, Alfred, Ashley, Scott, Evan, Ryan, Reid, and Jaclyn; great-great grandchildren Avery and Aidan.
Predeceased by her husband, Damien Aucoin; sisters Mary-Helen, Cecile and Mathilda; brothers Dave, Charlie and Alphonse. Sophie also leaves behind beloved cousins, nieces, nephews and numerous cherished friends.
Known as “Mere-mere” to all her grandchildren and their friends, Sophie will be remembered for her fabulous stories, many of which served to paint a beautifully vivid image of her late husband, whom her grandchildren never had the opportunity to meet. All who met Sophie will miss her love-infused cooking, especially her meat pie, pancakes and home-made buns! Most of all, they’ll miss her smile and warmth.
Thank you to the staff and residents at Arborstone Enhanced Care.
Sophie’s family would like to extend a special “thank you” to Jean Chiasson for her friendship and support.
