Steven was a devoted father and husband, loyal friend, and cherished neighbour. Known for his quiet wit and gentle sense of humour, he had a remarkable way of making people smile, often with a well-timed observation or understated joke.
A lifelong lover of history, Steven possessed an endless curiosity about the past, particularly WWII. Whether discussing world events, or family stories, he brought enthusiasm and thoughtfulness to every conversation. He found equal happiness in life's simpler moments, especially spending time with his beloved dogs on their daily walks.
As a neighbour and friend, Steven was generous with his time, always willing to lend a hand, or simply share a conversation. He built lasting friendships through his sincerity, and genuine interest in others. He will be deeply missed by many.
Steven spent 35 fulfilling years working for the Nova Scotia Health Authority, in the Pharmacy Department, before retiring. He truly loved his work and the people he worked alongside, forming many lifelong friendships throughout his career.
Steven was predeceased by his parents, Norman and Maureen (Coyle) Berakos, and his brother, Norman Berakos.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Cheryl, the love of his life, with whom he shared many happy years of laughter, friendship and memories. Their enduring love and unwavering commitment to one another helped them face Steven’s illness with courage and grace.
A loving father, Steven was immensely proud of his children, John (Megan) and Katie, and the remarkable adults they have become. Their accomplishments, character, and happiness brought him tremendous joy, and he spoke of them often with love and pride. He also adored his granddaughter, Moira, who held a special place in his heart.
Though his battle with cancer was long and difficult, he faced it with incredible resilience. Throughout it all, he remained focused on the people he loved most and grateful for the support of family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Station Six (247 Herring Cove Road, Halifax), on Sunday, October 18th from 2-6pm. Please come and share a memory of Steven with his family.
The family wishes to sincerely thank the Dialysis, Hematology, and Oncology Teams at the QEII Health Sciences Centre that cared for him over the years.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the SPCA would be appreciated.
