

Thomas (Tom) Arthur Stanley passed away peacefully from cancer on May 16, 2026. Born and raised in Halifax, Tom was the son of the late Jack and Mona Stanley. He lived a life defined by kindness, selflessness, quiet wisdom, humour and most of all an unwavering love for his family.
Tom obtained Physical Education and Physiotherapy degrees from Dalhousie University and practiced physiotherapy for 46 years in a variety of hospital and clinical settings. Most recently he worked with Nova Scotia Health as part of the community team that launched the West Bedford Community Transitional Health Program.
Tom was the founder of Stanley Consulting Services and provided legal and insurance assessment services in private practice since 1992. He was well respected in his field and known for his empathy, skill and practical advice to patients.
In his early years, Tom was an accomplished athlete who excelled in many sports, especially track. He was a member of the Nova Scotia provincial relay team that won a silver medal at the Canada Games in 1973.
Although he was a self-proclaimed workaholic, in his spare time Tom loved to watch hockey (especially the Habs), work on genealogy research and Facetime with his beloved granddaughter, Nova. He was an avid follower of current political events and had a had extensive knowledge of history, both locally and internationally. He loved to tell stories, especially about growing up in the North End of Halifax. He was the master of Dad jokes and was always on the lookout for a great Kijiji buy.
Tom is survived by his wife Linda, daughters Jenna (Matt) and Katie, granddaughter Nova, sister Sue (Clem), brothers James (Linda) and Douglas (Janette) and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Tom’s life will be held at JA Snow’s Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax on Sunday, May 24 between 2 and 4 pm. Remarks at 2:30. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Feed Nova Scotia in Tom’s memory.
