PURCHASE, Valentina {Vallie} Estella (Carter) passed away on Sept 16, 2014 at the age of 84 years at Melville Lodge Nursing Home, Halifax. She was born on Feb 14, 1930 in Halifax to Stanley Richard William Roberts, and Dolly Rose (McFatridge) Roberts. After the death of her mother, she was adopted by her maternal grandmother, Estella Rose (Boyden) Carter, and David Martin Carter. Vallie was married on Sept 11, 1948 at the Brunswick Street United Church to George Richard Purchase. At the time of George’s death in May 1999 they had been married for 50 years. Vallie attended the Maritime Business College in Hfx. and afterwards worked as a clerk typist at John Tobin and Company Limited, wholesale grocery and tea merchants in Halifax. In the late 1950’s she worked a couple of years at the Post Office for the Christmas rush, and later in 1985 worked there for several months, which she really enjoyed. In the early 1960’s she worked part-time at Sobeys, which was situated on the corner of Duffus St. and Gottingen St. (later renamed Novalea Dr). Vallie is survived by her daughters, Janis and Wendy, Lower Sackville, and her two sons, Richard (Rick) and Toby (her cat), Halifax. Besides her parents and husband, Vallie was predeceased by her brother, Glen Carter, d. Nov 1980 in Hamilton, Ont., and her sister, Naomi (Bob) Knox d. May 2012 in Carleton Place, Ont. We would like to thank the staff at the Melville Lodge Nursing Home for the wonderful attentive care they gave to our Mother, and a special thank you to Care Worker, Kim Smith, who often conversed with Mom and made her laugh.
