CHARLTON, Vera Viola – 95. It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our special angel on Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at Ivany Place, Bedford, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Halifax in July of 1916 to the late Goldie and Ernest Brown. She is survived by her daughter Gloria (Don Lowther), son William (Stella), grandson Michael (Sheila), granddaughter Tanya (Craig Currie) and great grandsons Craig and Cole Currie and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved husband William (Bill) as well as brothers Earl and Clarence. To know mom was to love her. She always had a ready smile and a helping hand for anyone that was in need of either. She was a member of the Rebeccas, and the Princess Ruth Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star Lodge as well as a member and Sunday School teacher at Bethany United Church Halifax for a number of years. Mom was an employee of Simpson’s for thirty years. Her greatest pleasure in life was spending time with her family and next to that was traveling wherever the roads would take her. She and dad traveled across Canada and the United States a number of times – by rail, by plane and by road loving every minute and mile of it. They traveled with a tent trailer across Newfoundland and even before the Trans Canada Highway was completed, and to hear their stories, it was a quite a trip back then. We all spent many happy summers with mom and dad outside of Bangor, Maine at cottages owned by dear friends whom we call our Maine family. Our beloved mom, grandmother and great-grandmother was very precious to us and her death has left a huge hole in our hearts. We will miss her unconditional love, her twinkling eyes and her loving smile but we know that she is now free of pain and back in the arms of her beloved Bill. We are very lucky now as we have two guardian angels in heaven keeping an eye on us – ‘till we meet again. The family would especially like to thank all the caregivers and staff in Fisherman’s Landing at Ivany Place who gave mom such loving care; as well as the residents who became her friends and also her special hairdresser. They all were truly her extended family for the past two years. They are too numerous to name each and every one and we wouldn’t want to leave anyone out by mistake, but you know who you are and our family can never thank you enough. We will never forget each and every one of you. Visitation will be at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr., Halifax (902) 455-0531 on Friday, June 8th from 2-4 & 6-8pm. Service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Saturday, June 9th at 1:00pm with reception to follow. Family graveside service to follow at Fairview Lawn Cemetery
“God bless you, Mom”
