It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Violette Salloum Karaan, a beloved wife, devoted mother, cherished grandmother, loving daughter, dear sister, and treasured aunt. Violette passed away on Thursday, April 16, 2026 and is now resting peacefully with the Lord.
Violette was born on December 3, 1951, in Akkar, Lebanon. At the young age of 18, Violette along with her sister Mary, made their way to Halifax, Nova Scotia to join their brother Abraham who was already there and establishing a future for the family. Upon a return visit to Lebanon in 1974, she met her husband, the late George Karaan, and they travelled back to Halifax where they began their life together.
Violette devoted her life to raising her four boys: Tarek Karaan, Joseph Karaan (Mireille), Walid Karaan, and the late Abraham (Bobby) Karaan.
Once the boys were of high school age, Violette could be found helping her husband at their pizza shop, Tony’s Donair, in Woodlawn Mall, Dartmouth. Violette worked hand in hand with George continuing to build and provide a good life for their family.
Violette was the heart of her family — a woman whose kindness, warmth, and gentle spirit touched everyone she met. She gave endlessly of herself, always putting others first and offering comfort, support, and love in every moment.
As a mother and grandmother Violette’s love knew no bounds. She took great pride in her family and found her greatest joy, and smiled most, in the moments spent with them.
She will be remembered for her kind soul, her quiet strength, and the way she made people feel welcomed and loved. Her presence was a gift, and her absence leaves a space that can never truly be filled.
Violette will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, but her legacy of love, kindness and devotion will live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
She is survived by her children, Tarek, Joseph (Mireille), and Walid; her grandchildren Abraham (Bobby), Nicolas and Gianna; as well as her, siblings, Abraham Salloum (Marie), Mary Laba (the late Halim Laba), Antoine Salloum (Claudia), Eva Sayde (George), Hala Nahas (Elias), nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, Salim and Laurice Salloum, her husband George Karaan and her son, Abraham (Bobby) Karaan.
Forever loved. Forever remembered.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 23, 2026 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at JA Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, Nova Scotia.
A funeral service to honour Violette’s life will be held on Friday, April 24, 2026 at 11:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Lebanon Parish, 111 Clayton Park Drive, Halifax, Nova Scotia.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Our Lady of Lebanon Church https://ourladyoflebanon.org/ in memory of Violette.
