Virginia "Ginny" Ann Doucet (nee MacMaster), age 79, of Halifax passed away at the Halifax Infirmary on Tuesday, March 26, 2019. Born in Guysborough, NS, on March 21, 1940, Ginny was the daughter of the late John and Eleanor (O’Connor) MacMaster of Boylston, NS. As a young Royal Bank employee, she met her loving husband, George Doucet, at the Spring Garden Road branch. Ginny was a teller and George was attending the Technical University of Nova Scotia. George was smitten at first sight; Ginny took more convincing. From those early days in Halifax, to Quebec City, to Baie Comeau, and back to Nova Scotia, they launched a marriage that lasted 58 years. Together they met the Queen, ate sushi in Japan and toured across Canada while making lasting memories.
Above all else, Ginny loved her family. She was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her children and cherished every moment with them. She was the beloved mother of Dennis (Colleen) of Tantallon, NS; Brian (Karin) or Summerside, PEI; and Carla (Jeff) of Peterborough, ON. She was incredibly proud of her grandchildren Jack and Ian Doucet, Reilly and Thomas Doucet, and Connor, Owen and Lauren Guest. An accomplished cook and baker, she was known for her generous hospitality. This led her to a second career, following retirement from the RBC, as a caterer and event planner. She especially loved her role as Grandma, preparing favourite treats and her grandchildren all agreed that she made the best pies, biscuits and parfaits. Ginny was game for any activity whether it be with family at the cottage or the Fairview crowd, playing Shediac medic with a wheelbarrow or serving mouthwash parfaits, she embraced life and lived it to the fullest.
A lifetime member of the Catholic Women’s League (50 years) and founding member of St. Pius X CWL, Ginny gave of herself whenever there was a need. She volunteered as Greeter at St. Agnes Parish for many years, a role well suited to her vibrant and outgoing personality. She will be greatly missed by everyone whose life she touched, including her childhood pals in Boylston, (where much mischief took place), the extensive Doucet family, her many nieces and nephews, and most importantly, her loving sister, Marie MacMaster. Thank you to the staff at the Halifax Infirmary and Camp Hill hospitals for excellent and compassionate care.
Visitation will be held at J. A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax on Monday, April 1, 2019, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Agnes Church, 6903 Mumford Rd, on Tuesday, April 2, at 2:00 pm. Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
