Passed away peacefully Saturday, February 9th 2019.
Born in Victoria Vale, NS April 29th, 1928 to Lester and Evangeline, Wilf was the second oldest of eight children. Wilf’s place in the family instilled a great sense of responsibility and love of family in him, to which his brothers and sister can attest.
Wilf leaves behind a legacy of family, faith and professional accomplishments too numerous to mention. He remained a humble man all his life and asked that his obituary reflect the same.
A well respected engineer in the construction industry, Wilf built many landmarks in Nova Scotia but it was the relationships and family that he built with his wife of 60 years, Betty Anne, that brought him the most pride. Those who knew him well will miss him terribly, but are also happy that he is once again with Betty Anne where he was always happiest.
Wilf was a proud “Papa” to ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren whom he loved very much. “Papa” was quick to let others know of the many accomplishments of his grandkids with his trademark enthusiasm. He will be greatly missed by Jean-Marc (Solveig), Jamie (Lindy), Jason (Rachael), Lee (Mallory), Elisabeth, Jonathan, CJ, Kenzi, Jenna, Campbell, Ryleigh, Judah and Felicity.
Wilf was predeceased by his wife, Betty Anne; brother John; sisters-in-law Thelma & Margaret Ann & brother-in-law Cecil Bateman. Left with cherished memories are his five sons Randy (Donna), Malcolm (Lise), David (Gail), Jamie (Melody) and Bill (Shelley) as well as brothers Randolph, Edwin (Marlene), Jim (Jan), Ron (Pat), Fred, sister Audrey Bateman and sister-in law Maxine.
Many thanks to the Doctor’s, Nurses and staff at the QEll (both Halifax Infirmary & VG) who took exceptional care of Wilf. Cremation has taken place entrusted to J.A.Snow’s Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will take place this summer at Halifax Christian Church, 51 Farnham Gate Road on Sunday, July 28th at 2 p.m. Reception to follow at the church.
Donations in Wilf’s memory to the QEll or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
