

Mattie Augusta Stegemoller Hohertz went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, November 15, 2013, at Sunset Lutheran Home in Clifton, where she was a resident for seven years. She spent the past eleven years of her life in nursing homes with Alzheimer’s disease, where she could still be found singing until recently.
Mattie was born October 12, 1918 to Alma Regina Reinert Stegemoller and Louis Fritz Emil Stegemoller near Pottsville, Texas. She confirmed her faith in Christ at the old Trinity Lutheran Church, Pottsville, on October 22, 1933. She went to Pottsville Schools. On September 8, 1940, she married Martin Walter Hohertz of Priddy. Martin predeceased her on November 17, 2002, after 62 years of marriage. They were also predeceased by an infant daughter, her parents, her brother and sister-in-law Oscar and Oleta Stegemoller of Pottsville, and Martin’s brothers and their wives.
Mattie and Martin were very special aunt and uncle to their nieces and nephews and their descendents who survive them: Carolyn Stegemoller Williams and husband Ron, of Whitney, Lacrecia Ann Stegemoller of Dallas, Louis Oscar Stegemoller and wife Patsy of Pottsville, Wanda Hohertz Muehlbrad and husband Emory of Austin, Mildred Hohertz Peters of Priddy, Jeanie Hohertz of Priddy, Alfred Dacus of Duncanville, Bobby Hohertz and wife Marva of Canadian, and Bobby Moore of Moran.
Mattie was a life-long member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Pottsville. She worked for J.C. Penney Co, in Temple, during World War II, ran a grocery store in Pottsville, worked at a sewing factory in Dallas, and kept books for many of Martin’s building projects in Dallas, San Antonio, Kerrville, and Colorado. She was a great cook. She was especially known for her terrific beef stew, wonderful pecan pies, and delicious Christmas candies.
Graveside services are planned at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Pottsville, at 10 a.m., Monday, November 18, with Pastor Don Kingman officiating. Visitation is planned for Sunday evening, November 17, at Riley Funeral Home in Hamilton, from 4 – 6 p.m. Pall bearers are Louis Stegemoller, Sr., Louis Stegemoller, Jr., Ron Williams, Tommy Stegemoller, Ray Stegemoller, and Lucas Robinson. Honorary pall bearers are Milton Stegemoller, and Johnnie Stegemoller.
