Andrew Ziegberman was born on April 21, 1949. He was diagnosed with ALS but unexpectedly passed away peacefully on January 28, 2026 while accompanied by his children. He grew up in Brooklyn, New York with his parents and older brother and sister. He joined the US Navy and was a Shipfitter 3rd Class on the USS Holder and USS Tidewater. In 1970, he went on a blind date which turned into a 40 year marriage to his wife, Hilary, until her passing in 2012.
Andy and Hilary were very devoted to each other but also devoted to their children. Andy was very involved in PTO for their school, dance, science projects, Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts. After the kids left their nest, they went on cruises and spent a lot of time with friends. After Hilary’s passing, he moved to Atlanta to be closer to Jana and his grandchildren. He enjoyed spending time at Dunkin and AJs with his friends. No one was ever a stranger to him.
He is well known as Andy by friends and family, Ziggy by coworkers, dad by his children but most importantly, Poppy, by his grandchildren. He was so proud of Ezri and Henry and let everyone know this, friend or stranger.
Andy was preceded in death by his father, Julius Ziegberman; his mother, Arline Ziegberman Heller; his stepfather, Sol Heller; and his brother, Howard Ziegberman.
He is survived by his loving children, Adam Ziegberman and Jana Robertson and her husband, Matthew; his cherished grandchildren, Ezri and Henry Robertson; and his sister, Terri Bobrow and her husband, David, along with their children, Amy Gross and Julie Bursky. His legacy lives on through each of them.
Graveside service will be held at Mt. Carmel Cemetery located at 83-45 Cypress Hills Street, Glendale, NY 11385 at 11:15 AM on February 4, 2026.
