I was saddened to learn of Alvin’s passing as noted in the NYT 2.11.22. I met him in 1969 when I was interviewed at Brookdale for a new position in Pediatrics and Endocrinology. Since that time and for the next 46 years, he had always supported the growth of both the department and its expanding specialty devisions. He was instrumental in initiating collaborative medical student teaching with parent universities; namely Mount Sinai, New York University, State University of New York at Brooklyn, New York Osteopathic College, and establishing student rotations from off-shore medical schools. He was always willing to help initiate new teaching and specialty programs to serve the hospital’s communities. He served tirelessly as Chief Medical Officer and Board member to resolve issues at local and state political levels. 
I will remember him as a true Renaissance man because of his love of the classics and European training.

Al Kahn was supposed to be best man at our wedding 71 years ago. Alas he was 
In  Switzerland and so  it   Wasn’t possible 
When he and Sonja  returned to America 
We. Had a lot of catching up to do 
We  cherished all the years we spent together  raising our families  Al was our
Closest friend and advisor and we will miss him  Baruch Dayan  Emet

My heart and thoughts are with the entire Kahn/Simon family.  I have such wonderful memories of the 23 years of which Alvin was a part of my life. They will remain in my heart forever. 
Because of Bruce my fear of COVID is the only reason I am not there in person to honor this extraordinary man. 
May his memory be a blessing and may you know no more sorrow.

Al was a Fraternity brother of my father’s and a beloved friend of both my parents Jim and Lisa Schlesinger.  As a young teen he helped me find the food triggers of my migraine headaches which at the time was a novel approach. He was as kind and compassionate and brilliant and talented as a person could be. I loved his laugh. He will be missed. 

I met Dr.  Kahn soon after starting my employment at Brookdale Hospital in 1983.   When he became Chairman of the Board, he was given an office in the department where I was working.  I helped him out from time to time and we had a great working relationship. He was kind and always there to listen if you had a problem, medical, or otherwise. He had a quick sense of humor and always made me smile.    We all enjoyed having him as an office mate and I know he loved being there too. 

It was an honor to know and work with him and I will always remember him fondly.
