Steve was born on March 11, 1940, to the late Rose (Horowitz) Silverman and David Silverman, in the Bronx, New York. He served in the army from 1963 to 1965 and was stationed in Germany. Steve met Carol in 1977 and they were married in November of that same year. They initially lived in New Jersey, but soon moved to upstate New York to raise their children in a more rural area, surrounded by nature.
Steve worked in several different industries throughout his career, but his jobs always centered around creative problem-solving. This was his passion in life, and it formed the basis of his hobbies as well. In most of his free time, Steve could be found tinkering in the basement or the garage, and his family home was full of his electronic inventions (that he often referred to as “veeblefetzers”). Steve could build or repair just about anything. Another passion was music. He played the harmonica and loved listening to a vast array of genres. And if you knew Steve, it’s very likely that you received a CD or flash drive full of songs from him (even if you didn’t ask for it). Looking at family photos, it was sometimes hard to tell if Steve was there. That’s because he was always the one behind the camera! He loved taking photos, and in his younger days, he even developed his own pictures. Pepa enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, telling them his (sometimes questionable) life stories and teaching them the art of tinkering. Steve was a generous soul who put the needs of others above his own. He was always willing to give of his time, and open his home, to anyone in need.
Steve Silverman is predeceased by his wife, Carol. He is survived by his two sons, Joel Silverman of Shokan, NY and Larry Silverman and his wife Kirsten of Malden, MA; a daughter, Anna Wettan and her husband Matt of Lindenhurst, NY; a sister, Lenore Lerner and her husband Larry Lerner of Livingston, NJ and four grandchildren, Victoria, Sam, Ben and Zachary.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at Beth David Cemetery in Elmont, NY at 11:00.
Boulevard-Riverside Funeral Home is honored to assist the family with the arrangements.
