

Edith was born on October 31, 1949 in Belzoni, MS to the late Samuel and Annie Gamill. She was a graduate of McNair High School in Mississippi and went on to receive a Bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois. In 1980, she married Elijah Powell and had 3 children. Edith worked as a teacher for District 205 for over 40 years and also worked at Grace Migrant Head Start for 7 years. Edith loved to garden, draw, paint, sew and craft. She also loved to cook and hang out with her friends and family. Edith was a Christian that read the Bible daily and was charitable to all in need.
Edith is survived by her children, Jay Gamill, Gwendolyn Gamill and Michael Powell; brothers, Johnny Gamill and Sam Gamill; sister, Alma Hurtado and a host of other family and friends.
Preceded in death by Cornelius Gamill, Earline McDaniel, Willie Wardell Gamill, Roxie Gamill and Gladys Gamill.
A Celebration of Life in her honor will be at a later date for close family and friends.
Edith was a loving daughter, sister, wife and mother and will truly be missed by all whose lives she touched.
