George was born on September 1, 1941, in East Chicago, IN, to Elizabeth Ann Hunt and George Thomas Lucas, Sr.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Sharon Lucas; his children, Annmarie (Dale) Marcuson, Brenda Lucas, and Thomas Lucas; and his cherished grandchildren, Christine (Richard) Weber, Stephanie Daniel, Jayden Lucas, Jerrett (Allison) Marcuson, Stephen (Tara) Forth, and Hanna Lucas. He was also blessed with seven great-grandchildren, Leah, Connor, Cameron, Landon, Phoenix, Brooklyn, and Evelyn.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elizabeth Hunt and George Thomas Lucas, Sr.; his son, Patrick Lucas; his grandson, Patrick Lucas, Jr.; and his daughter-in-law, Sandy Lucas.
George grew up in Milwaukee, WI, where he worked in his parents’ foundry. At the age of 17, he joined the United States Air Force and proudly served his country. Following his military service, he began a 30-year career with Ford Motor Company, where he was a dedicated and proud member of the UAW.
George was deeply involved in his church and treasured his Sunday routine of attending services, followed by breakfast, especially if there was a good game on afterward. A lifelong sports fan, he faithfully cheered for the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, and, most of all, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
His passion for sports extended beyond watching games. In 1977, George founded his own umpire organization, serving local baseball and softball leagues throughout the community.
George also loved to travel and created many special memories with Sharon on trips to Alaska, Hawaii, and beyond. When he was not traveling or enjoying sports, he could often be found listening to his favorite music, especially Elvis Presley. A devoted Elvis fan, George even performed Elvis songs in local church productions.
George will be remembered as a loving husband, devoted father, proud grandfather and great-grandfather, and loyal friend. Above all, he will be fondly remembered for his warm spirit and his signature phrase, “Thank you very much!”
Visitation for George will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2026, from 2:00 to 6:00 pm at Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Road, Highland, IN 46322. A funeral service with Military Honors will take place at 3:00 pm. In accordance with his wishes, George will be cremated.
