JANE M HERRERA, age 78, of Hobart, Indiana passed away on Sunday, September 12, 2021. Jane was a very generous, loyal, and loving daughter, sister, wife, mom, gramma, great gramma, aunt, cousin, neighbor, and friend. She was well respected by all who knew her. She loved to be on the phone with family and friends. She always kept up with everyone’s birthdays and anniversaries. Her door was always open and she loved to have people over for coffee. She was also the guardian angel of her block, helping to take care of the neighborhood kids before and after school. She enjoyed Yahtzee, Scrabble, Rummy, crosswords, and word searches - and always used the pencil down to the end. Jane was a seamstress at Winer Manufacturing/ Stratojac, in Hammond, IN for 20+ years. She loved Jesus and was a member of the Pentecostals of Southlake Church in Merrillville for the last 20 years. She is survived by two daughters: Teri (Gil) Houk, Tammy (Tim) Kemp; three grandchildren: Loni (Roberto) Yanez, Jessica (Joshua) Olson, Sarah (Joshua) Newton; six great grandchildren: Annabella, Josiah, Josie, Jachin, Joshua, and Noah; preceded in death by her parents Chester and Grace Rhymer, her husband Ernest Herrera, her son Robert Johnston, and one sister Joann. Friends may visit on Thursday, September 16, 2021 at The Pentecostals of South Lake Church, (1640 West 93rd Avenue, Merrillville, IN 46410) from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Visitation will also be held on Friday, September 17, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM followed by funeral services at 11:00 AM at the church, Pastor Robert Stroup officiating.
