Jerome J. Vates

Jerome “Jerry” J. Vates, age 79, of Highland, IN passed away Wednesday, September 16, 2015. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Betty; three sons: Randy (Anna) Vates, Mike Vates and Joe (Kelly) Vates; eight grandchildren: Vanessa, Brandon, Michael, Allen, Randy, Erika, Jeremy and Emily; five great grandchildren; brother, Dick Vatcoskay; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Vates was preceded in death by his parents: Joseph and Helen Vatcoskay; sister, Rosemarie Jones; and brother, Joe Grant. A memorial service with military honors will be held Monday, September 21, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. DIRECTLY at Suburban Bible Church, 3010 41st St., Highland, IN with Pastor Lou Rodriguez officiating. Friends are invited to meet with the family Monday, September 21, 2015 from 2:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. (time of service) at the church. Friends are also invited to meet with the family Sunday, September 20, 2015 from 2:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at Kuiper Funeral, 9039 Kleinman Road (two blocks south of Ridge Road) Highland, IN. Mr. Vates retired from Acme Steel with 33 years of service. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army and was a former officer of the Griffith Izaak Walton League.
