A deeply loved father and Pawpaw, and the proud patriarch of the McCloud clan, John was lovingly reunited in eternal paradise on January 24, 2026, with the love of his life, Susan “Mawmaw” McCloud, his beloved “Honey Bunny.”
John was born in Keokuk, IA, to Jay Archie and Dortha McCloud. He graduated from Pekin High School, class of 1975. He then started building a life defined by hard work and perseverance. After moving to Indiana in 1985, John began his career with the cable company, starting in door-to-door sales. Through his endless dedication and grit, he rose to the role of an electrical technicians engineer, retiring proudly after 35 years of service.
The unquestioned leader and king of the McCloud Clan, John, leaves behind a legacy rooted in love, loyalty, and laughter. He was surrounded by so much love and he left behind a family forever shaped by his strength, humor, and devotion.
He is survived by his three loving daughters, Angelique McCloud, Malissa McCloud, and Justina (Michael) Powers; his adored five "OG" grandchildren, who include, Erica Goodson (Bobby Eierman), Mia (George) Hough, Kyle Ashlock, Matthew Goodson (Haley Buitron), and Meadow Slemin; also his hilarious “Three Stooges,” Whyatt McCloud, Ethaniel Boyd and Ferris Slemin.
Nothing brought him more pride and joy than his four precious great-grandchildren, whose laughter filled his heart and brought him so much happiness, Lilith Syzdykov, Piper Eierman, Greyson Buitron and Marzia Goodson; and his cherished extended grandchildren, Myles Nims, and Izzy Watson; and great-grandbaby, Mylo Nims. He is survived by his adored sister, Bonnie (Ken) Humphrey, the last of his four older sisters. He is also survived by many of his amazing nephews, nieces, extended family and friends.
John lived life to the fullest. He especially loved taking a lot of tropical vacations with his Honey Bunny. Whether they were on a beach in Aruba, the Bahamas, Cozumel or wherever they went, he loved vacationing with his loving wife, Susan. His favorite moments were spent riding his Harley with Susan on the back of his bike, taking long rides that often ended at home with them swinging on the porch swing together. Above all, he cherished every moment with her.
His lifelong passion was music. He loved going to concerts and festivals with his wife, Susan. He enjoyed building detailed model ships, playing pranks on all of his daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and he loved telling hilarious jokes and stories about to his family and friends!! He also loved watching football just to be able to boo the Bears!! He truly treasured all the time he got to spend with everyone in his family. Every laugh, every story, every moment together mattered to him more than anything else in the world.
