

Malcolm R. Garland, age 85 of Hammond, passed away Monday, December 6, 2010. He is survived by two children: Sarah Jenny Redar of Hammond and Paul (Cheryl) Garland of Boyce, LA; five grandchildren: Kim (Roger) Walker of Crown Point, Michael (Sharolyn) Redar of Mount Vernon, TX, Shannon Redar of Hammond, Anthony Garland of Seattle, WA and Ben (Lindsey) Garland of Boyce, LA; nine great grandchildren: Kelsey, Emily, Wyatt, Kendall, Garrett, Brooklynn, Xander, Aubree and Ashtyn; one brother, Hank (Bobbie) Garland of Cadiz, KY; one sister, Nicki Jackson of Lynwood, IL. Also survived by his loving and caring friend, Joyce Kaniewski and her family. His faithful canine companion, Justice; and feline friend Missus; brothers and sisters in law: Shirley (Levi) Stewart, Johnnie Ellis, Frances (David) Norfleet, Eleanor (Billy) Smiley, Kenneth (late Elizabeth) Pendleton, and Mary Helen (late Keith) Pendleton; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Garland was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Ardoth in 2002. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 10, 2010 at 11:30 a.m. at Kuiper Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Parnell officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Thursday from 3:00-8:00 p.m. at Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Road (two blocks south of Ridge Road), Highland, IN. Mr. Garland was a veteran of the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a member of the Briar East Baptist Church of Hammond and was retired from Keil Chemical of Hammond. He was a member of the Calumet Gem and Mineral Society for 30 years and was an avid camper, fisherman, traveler, and rock hound. Mr. Garland was also a diehard Cubs and Bears fan.
