
Marvin D. "Daddy" "Pappaw" Hendrix of Highland, IN, formerly of Hammond, IN and Greenville, KY, was called home Wednesday, February 2, 2011, at the age of 88. Born in 1924 in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky to Ora and Myrtle Hendrix; he is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Thelma Z. Hendrix; and six children: Michael (Ruth) Hendrix of Highland, IN, David (Debbie) Hendrix of Owensboro, KY, Sherry Ann (Bruce) Brown of Greenville, KY, Theresa Martin of Hammond, IN, Timothy (Kathy) Hendrix of Hammond, IN and Cynthia (John) Kaszkur of Munster, IN; 10 very loving grandchildren: Leah (Eric) Brown-Summers of Hammond, IN, Michelle Hendrix (Herbert Cruz) of Schererville, IN, Tamara (Ryan) Williams of Owensboro, KY, Rachel (Joshua) Wooley of Hebron, IN, Jason Brown of Greenville, KY, David Martin (Jessica Ramos) of Crown Point, IN, Michael Martin of Oahu, HI, Tiffany Hendrix of Las Vegas, NV, Joshua Kaszkur of Munster, IN and Jordan Brown of Greenville, KY; 12 great grandchildren and two brothers: Leroy (Barbara) Hendrix of Greenville, KY and Bobby (Jeanette) Hendrix of Central City, KY. He is preceded in death by his parents and three brothers: O.W. Hendrix, James Earl Hendrix, Zena Hendrix; and step grandson, Ronald Fowler. Besides having a great sense of humor and a willingness to help anyone, he loved to read, work in his yard, fish, walk and ride his bike for miles. Marvin was also part of the CCC camp program that helped build Mammoth Cave National Park and he proudly served in WWII, receiving an honorable discharge from the U.S. Army as a Tech Sergeant. He was a retired from Chicago Carpenters Local 272 and helped build many national and local landmarks to include the Sears Tower, the Prudential building, McCormick Place, Comiskey Park, Lever Brothers, the South Chicago Grain Elevators, the Burnham Bridge and numerous major roadways including the Western Kentucky Parkway. He was also a member of Griffith First Baptist. He was a hard working man, a man of strong character and of his word, which he instilled in all of his family. He will truly be missed by all of his family and all that had the pleasure of knowing him. Visitation will be Sunday, February 6, 2011, from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m., at Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Rd. Highland, IN. Funeral services will be Monday, February 7, 2001 at 10:00 a.m., with Dr. Scott Hobbs, officiating at the funeral home. Interment Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.
