Obituary of Michael J. Perz

IN THE CARE OF

Kuiper Funeral Home

Michael “Mickey” Perz, age 71, of Schererville IN. After a seven month courageous battle with esophageal and liver cancer, Mickey entered eternal life on November 23, 2014, surrounded by his loving family and crazy dog, Zeus. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Margaret; sons John (Donna) of St. John and Joshua of Schererville; grandchildren (the “Twins”), Alyssa Marie and Kolton John; step grandchildren, Edward Wawrzycki, Kristin (Michael) Trimble, Tiffany Wawrzycki and Breanna Wawrzycki; step great grandchildren Eddie Wawrzycki and Addison and Caleb Trimble; Aunt Theresa (William) Davis of Valparaiso; special cousin, Tom Davis of Griffith; sisters-in-law, Judith Borroel of Hammond and Patricia (Dan) Bannon of Schererville; Godchild Jacqueline Johns of Hammond; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Sophie Perz; dad that he never knew, Michael Marczi; father and mother in law Richard Bardon and Margie Bardon; and aunts, uncles, cousins, niece, and nephew. Funeral services will be held at St. John Bosco Church, 7113 Columbia Ave., Hammond IN on Saturday, November 29 at 10 AM with Rev. Richard Orlinski officiating. Burial will follow at Concordia Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Friday, November 28 from 2-8 PM at Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Road, Highland (two blocks south of Ridge Road). Mickey was an avid hunter and NASCAR fan always cheering for “48” Jimmie Johnson. He was able to see the last race of the season. His real devotion though was to his family and the Twins. The Twins were the heartbeat of his life. He was retired from the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 150, District 7, with 40 years of service. He was a gold card member. I want to thank the staff at Community Hospital, Northwest Oncology and ATI Physical Therapy for all of their special care and support of Mickey. Our love story of 50 years has come to an end—I lost the best part of my life. I brought out the best in Mickey and he brought out the best in me. He was the perfect husband, companion, best friend and soul mate. He was truly loved by all and will be sincerely missed by his loving family. He can now sleep in Peace with the Angels.
