

Milan E. Bacan, age 84, of Griffith, passed away Thursday, December 29, 2011 at the Indiana Veteran's Home. He is survived by his beloved caretaker and wife, Eileen; two children: Karen (Steve) Schneider and Gregory (Patricia) Bacan; five grandchildren: Kara, Emily, Katie, Nicholas and Sarah; five great-grandchildren: Jacob, Jenna, Maddux, Althea and Stella; two step-children: Daniel (Helene) Banina and Jeri Lynn (John) Sherby; four step-grandchildren: Sam, Jay, Lauren and Hannah; brothers and sisters: Kathleen (Donald) Knieriemen, Paul (Leona) Bachan, Nick (Karen) Bachan, Daniel (Fran) Bachan, Robert (Loretta) Bachan, Dolly (late Butch) Haluska, Richard (Gail) Bacan and Darryl (Bernie) Mihailovich; numerous nieces and nephews; and canine friend, Buttons. Mr. Bacan was preceded in death by his parents: Nicholas and Mary (Bacan) Mihailovich; first wife, Evelyn Bacan; three brothers: Michael Bacan, Joseph and John Bachan; two sisters: Mary Ann Cooper and Barbara Thweatt. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. DIRECTLY at St. Mary Catholic Church, 525 N. Broad, Griffith, IN with Rev. Theodore Mens officiating. Interment will follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Monday, January 2, 2012 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. (prayer service 4:30 p.m.) at Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Road (two blocks south of Ridge Road) Highland, IN. Mr. Bacan retired from Inland Steel with 42 years of service and was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church of Griffith. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict and was also a member of Griffith VFW Post #9982. Mr. Bacan loved playing cards and enjoyed his sweets. In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution's may be made in Milan's loving memory to the Indiana Veteran's Home.
