Paul Felus

Paul was born on February 1, 1982, in Hammond, IN to Terrence “Terry” and Sharon (Mears) Felus. He was the adored younger brother of Allison Felus and older brother of Stephanie Felus.

He graduated from Lake Central High School in the class of 2000 and received his Bachelor of Computer Science degree from Purdue University in 2005. After a number of years as a computer technician in the Lake County Public Library system in Northwest Indiana, he made his way out west to work in the tech industry there. Initially hired as a Quality Assurance Engineer for BigFix, Inc. in Emeryville, CA, he stayed on as a Senior QA Engineer as the ownership of the company changed hands to IBM and then to HCL Technologies.

Far from being a stereotypical computer nerd, though, Paul was a man of many talents. He played baseball and hockey in his youth and took up biking in his thirties. He appeared on stage as an actor in several Lake Central Theater Guild musicals and was featured as the delivery boy Arpad Laszlo in a community production of She Loves Me in 1998. He also played guitar and drums and became an avid painter in recent years, often sharing demonstrations of his process through his Twich.tv channel online.

Paul is preceded in death by his grandparents, Edward Felus, Frances (Smith) Felus, Charles Mears, and Elizabeth “Betty” (Nikruto) Mears; his parents, Terry and Sharon; his uncle, Lawrence “Larry” Mears; and his cousin, Justin Smith. He is survived by his sisters, Allison (Brian Cremins) and Stephanie; his uncles, Charles “Chuck” Mears (Lynne Urbanik) and Tim (Denise) Felus; and aunt, Pamela (Dave) Hurst; as well as nine first cousins and countless friends near and far.

A celebration of Paul’s life will be held on Friday, September 20, 2024, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 6:00 p.m., at Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Road, Highland, IN 46322. Memorial contributions may be made in his loving memory to the family.
