Phyllis Jean Chapman Demko

PHYLLIS JEAN DEMKO (nee Chapman) born September 3, 1933, passed away October 25, 2014. Phyllis was called home by the Lord on Saturday, surrounded by her family. She always thought that she would be one of the first in her family to pass and she ended up being the last. Now all her aches and pains are gone and she will be reunited with the Love of her life and will be able to dance as they walk hand in hand into eternity. She was married 44 years to Edward E. Demko, who also preceded her in death along with her parents, Roland and Vera Chapman and sisters Joan Pawenski and Nancy Small. She was fortunate in having two children: Lynn De La Cruz and Lawrence Demko; and five grandchildren: Skyler De La Cruz, Wendy, Nataly, Edward and Andrew Demko. Phyllis was baptized at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Denham, IN., went to grade school at St. Pauls Lutheran School in Hammond, IN and graduated from Hammond High School. She also attended Indiana University and graduated from the Savings and Loan Institute in Chicago and became an officer at Lake Federal Savings and Loan. She was fortunate to have many nieces and nephews and many special friends, Joyce Mudrovich, Cecelia Studinarz and Al and Joann Bernacki, to name a few. She also had great sisters- in- law: Lorraine Hatala and Ella Kirin; brother-in-law, Stanley Pawenski. She and Ed had a great life, spending time in Northern Michigan and doing a lot of travelling, which includes all 50 states. Later in life they spent their time between Northwest Indiana and Florida and later in her life she spent time in Southern California with her children and grandchildren. Phyllis had a full and happy life and was a very giving person. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 3, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. DIRECTLY at Concordia Lutheran Church, 7441 Grand Ave., Hammond, IN with Pastor Ronald E. Saatkamp officiating. Interment will follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville, IN. Friends are invited to meet with the family Sunday, November 2, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Road (two blocks south of Ridge Road) Highland, IN.
