Richard Jack Seljan

Jack Seljan of Highland passed away peacefully May 28, 2015 after a long illness. He is survived by his loving wife Mary (Hewett) Seljan; daughter Cheryle Seljan of Highland; sons: Terry (Sheri) of Ocean Isle Beach, NC and Robert of Chicago; grandson Eric (Jessica) Seljan of Shallotte NC; granddaughters: Mandy Gunter of Louisville, KY and Jill (Bill) Mayer of Highland; two great grandchildren: Sonny and Apolonia Mayer; brother Steve Seljan of Highland; sisters-in- law: Llena Holden of Ocean Isle Beach, NC and Lucille Phillips of Loganville, GA; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He is preceded in death by parents Josephine and Valentine Seljan; six sisters and three brothers. Funeral services will be held at Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Road, Highland (two blocks south of Ridge Road) on Monday June 1, 2015 at 9:30 a.m. with Rev. Donna Beifuss officiating. Burial will follow at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville, IN. Friends may visit with the family on Sunday May 31, 2015 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Jack was a retiree from Inland Steel Corp.and a proud veteran of the US Navy. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hammond and of the American Legion in Hessville. Jack's quick wit and humor will be missed by the many people that grieve for him now. The family would like to thank the staff at the Highland Nursing and Rehab center, the nurses at Community Hospital ICMU ward, and the staff at the WJ Riley Hospice Residence for taking excellent care of Jack through his illness.
