

Dr. Robert Jacob Porte, MD, 73, passed away at Banner University Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona on February 2, 2018. Robert was born to Jacob and Ruth Ida (Vander Tuuk) Porte on July 2, 1944 in Hammond, Indiana. After graduating from Highland High School, he attended Rose Polytechnic Institute and then Purdue University where he received his AAS, BS Engineering Management Technology. He worked as a research scientist at Argonne National Laboratory (1967-1970). He was a consulting engineer in Philadelphia (1970-1974). In 1978 he received his MD from Temple University Medical School in Philadelphia. He completed his Family Practice Residency (1979-1981) at Methodist Hospital in Gary, IN where he served as Chief Resident. Dr. Porte was a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Practice. He was Board Certified by the American College of Family Practice and by the American Board of Emergency Medicine. He was a member of the Lake County Medical Society, Indiana State Medical Society, California State Medical Society, Riverside County Medical Society, American Academy of Family Practice, American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine. Dr. Porte was Medical Director Midwest Steel in Portage, IN (1981-2003). He was a Staff Physician at Methodist Hospitals and Porter Memorial Hospital (1981-2003). He served as Medical Director at Lake County Jail (1992-1996). He was a Staff Physician at Riverside County Regional Medical Center and Occupational Medicine, and Medical Director Medical management Exclusive Care EPO Riverside, CA (2005). Dr. Porte retired in 2016 and moved to Chandler, AZ where he spent his remaining time with family. Out of all his accomplishments, he was most proud of his children and grandchildren. Surviving are his three children, Daniel Vincent Porte of Casa Grande, AZ, Danelle Marie Porte of Salt Lake City, Utah and Dr. Elissa Renee (John) Abbruscato, MD of Chandler, AZ; two grandsons: Jacob Sequoyah Porte of Griffith, IN and Vincent Daniel Abbruscato of Chandler, AZ, sister Carol (Herman) Biesen of Highland, IN and brothers James (Debra) Porte of Highland, IN and Ronald (Linda) Porte of Lafayette, IN. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Road (two blocks south of Ridge Road) Highland, IN with Shawn Cornett, Minister officiating.
