Warner Steve Brockett, resident of Schererville, IN, formerly of New York City, NY passed away on October 16, 2019 at the age of 32.
Warner was born to Betty (Tina) Williams and Byron Brockett Sr. on October 11, 1987 in New York, NY. Warner was raised in Harlem, NY.
Warner is survived by his mother, Betty (Tina) Williams, father, Bryon Brockett Sr. of New York City, son, Elijah John, beloved girlfriend Melissa Mendiola, of Schererville, IN, sister, Dari Williams, brothers, Jermaine and Taurean Williams of New York City; and brothers and sisters (Brockett family), aunts, Helen Taylor of South Carolina, Deborah Williams of New York City, uncles, Willie, Robert and Samuel Williams of New York City. Warner is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and other relatives.
Warner attended Life Sciences High School in Manhattan. He went on to study Law at John Jay College in New York City. After graduation, he attended Law School at the University of Iowa where he graduated on May 16, 2014 with a Juris doctorate degree. During his time at the University of Iowa, he excelled in his studies and served as Marketing and Community Service Chair, along with Treasurer of the Black Law Students Association. Warner was also an active member of the Equal Justice Foundation and Journal of Corporation Law holding positions as a Writer and Senior Associate Editor.
Warner was a jovial child who had an enthusiasm for playing and watching sports, reading, travel, history, along with an interest in politics, which led him to seek a degree in law. Upon gaining his law degree, Warner began his career practicing law at the Office of the State Appellate Defender – Illinois State Agency, eventually working in the field of labor, bankruptcy and corporate law all within the state of Illinois. He also pursued and passed the bar exam for New York State with the hope of returning to New York City to continue his career in his hometown.
Known as an amiable, intelligent and endearing spirit, he sought the good in people and in the world. His goal was to make a positive impact in life and wanted to use law as an integral tool. Always easy to talk to (except when debating about his beloved sports teams - the Yankees, Lakers and Giants!), Warner strived to show compassion, respect and kindness to all. He will be truly and deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
