Anne Jones Jahn, 87, of Alexian Village on Signal Mountain, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 8 at a local hospital. She was born Anna Ruth Jones in Birmingham, AL, the daughter of the late Homer Clifford Jones and Mabel Eudora Watters Jones. She came to Chattanooga in her childhood and attended Lutheran School and Central High School. In 1945 she graduated from Erlanger School of Nursing. She cared for wounded World War II troops and later worked at Erlanger Hospital and for private physicians. After a hiatus to raise her children, she went back to nursing in the late 1970’s, working at Erlanger North. Anne was a member of First Lutheran Church since childhood, and many of her lifetime relationships were formed there. She was a patient and selfless woman who made a deep impression on her children and grandchildren and many others. She will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard P. Jahn. She is survived by three children, Richard P. Jahn, Jr., David W. Jahn (wife Ann), and Janna E. Jahn, all of Signal Mountain and four grandchildren: Lindsay Prato and Sarah Dukerschein of San Francisco, and Madison A. Jahn and Hayden E. Jahn of Chattanooga. Also surviving are her in-laws, John and Mildred Jahn Ramsey of Kailua, Hawaii, as well as her faithful friend Evelyn Walldorf of Chattanooga and many nieces and nephews.
There will be a private graveside service. The family will then celebrate Anne’s life with friends and family at First Lutheran Church on Friday, February 17, with visitation beginning at 3 p.m. at the Church. The service will begin at 4 p.m, with Rev. Mark McCrory presiding. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary (Utah) or Belvoir Christian Academy in East Ridge. The family wishes to give special thanks to Hospice of Chattanooga for her care during the last weeks of her life and her fine team at the Memorial Hospital Progressive Care Unit.
