She was born August 14, 1946, in Chattanooga and was a graduate of Kirkman High School.
Betty retired from TVA after 27 years of service where she last served as the Management Services Manager at Sequoyah Nuclear Plant and previously was the Document Control Manager in Nuclear Corporate Office in Chattanooga and at the Bellefonte Nuclear Plant.
Her family was her life. Betty loved her family more than anything. She was a devoted wife and mother who enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and her devoted husband, Jack of 62 years. She and Jack loved to drive to Nickajack Dam every morning and eat their breakfast and feed the birds. They also enjoyed following and supporting their grandchildren playing golf. She developed and maintained a web site called “chattanoogajuniorgolf.com” for several years. She also enjoyed doing genealogy research and sharing the findings with family and friends. She loved the Lord and her favorite bible verses were, Proverbs 2, chapter 3:5-6. She and her husband were attending Stuart Heights Baptist Church Hixson Campus.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James, and Mamie Novella Pack.
Survivors include her loving and devoted husband of 62 years, Jack Spence; two children, Diane (Todd) Cothran, of Soddy Daisy and Jim (Tonya) Spence of Chattanooga; six grandchildren, Kyle (Emily) Cothran, of Soddy Daisy, Ashley (Michael) Hickey of Soddy Daisy, Haley (Dr. Josh Lawson) of Hixson, Alex Spence, of Chattanooga, Hailey Colburn, of Chattanooga and Matthew Colburn of Chattanooga; two great-grandchildren, Henry Thomas Cothran and Hannah Kate Lawson; and sister, Wilma (Johnny) Martin, and a number of special nieces and nephews.
There will be a private graveside service for family with Reverend Terry Mitchell presiding.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children.
