Born in Washington D.C., Ms. Gillette was the daughter of Francis Daniel Pastorius Bruner and Elizabeth Hill Bruner. She grew up in Petersburg, Virginia and graduated in 1950 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a degree in English.
Ms. Gillette found a position with the Waynesboro, VA newspaper upon graduation, and met and married her late husband, an engineer at DuPont, there. They moved to Hixson in 1966 when he was transferred to the former DuPont plant there. She began teaching high school English in the area and retired from Red Bank High School in 1992.
Survivors include a son, Daniel Gillette, of Richmond, Virginia; and a daughter, Betsy Gillette, of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
A private family service will be held in Petersburg, Virginia in the Blandford Cemetery where she will be laid to rest.
