Charlie was preceded in death by his brothers Herman, Taylor, and Bill Bayless, and his sister Elizabeth Bayless.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Carolyn Bayless; his son, Tracy (Susan) Bayless; and his daughter, Sherry (Tony) Cordell. He also leaves behind his grandchildren Brooke Cordell, Codee (Jared) Yaw, Brandi (Russell) Reid, and Dillon (Alissa) Bayless; seven great-grandchildren; brother Ronny (Royce) Bayless; sisters Lucille (Wade) Boring, Wanda Bean, Brenda King, Debbie (Frank) Martin, and Shirley (Paul) Haman and many beloved nieces and nephews.
At age 21, Charlie moved to Chattanooga and began a career in the food service industry. Through determination and grit, he started his own successful family business until his retirement in 2009.
Charlie lived life to the fullest. He was a genuinely happy person—always smiling, laughing, and telling stories—and was often the life of the party. He loved the outdoors, whether boating, camping in his beloved van, horseback riding, or simply sitting on the back porch enjoying nature.
Family was Charlie’s greatest treasure. He never missed an opportunity to support his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, attending sporting events no matter the distance. Being with family was his happy place.
Though Charlie faced dementia in his later years, it never diminished his joy, his laughter, or his deep love for his family. He was dearly loved and will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.
The family extends their sincere gratitude to Sue, caretaker, for her exceptional care, compassion, and kindness. Also, thank you to Hearth Hospice for their care.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 14th from 12-2 pm at Chattanooga Funeral Home North Chapel in Hixson. The funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel at 2:00 pm with pastor Mike Battles officiating. Interment will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
Arrangements are under the care of the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson. Please share your thoughts and memories at www.chattanooganorthchapel.com
