He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Brenda Clements Patterson, his devoted wife and partner of 47 years, and his parents, Elizabeth Louis Hodge and George Gilbert Patterson. He is survived by his daughter, Mia Fleetwood, son-in-law, Jeff Fleetwood, and grand-daughter, Gray Fleetwood of Brentwood, Tennessee.
David, or as he was affectionately known by many as “Pat” or “Dave” attended high school at Red Bank High School. He was an outstanding student and received a football scholarship to Carson- Newman University. After graduation in 1960, he attended law school at the University of Tennessee and received his law degree in 1963.
After a brief stint with a prominent law firm, Dave was given the opportunity to work for his father-in-law, Wallace Clements in the antique business in Hixson. Dave was a quick study in the business with a keen eye and helped expand the business with exponential growth. After several years, Northgate Auction Gallery was formed, and Dave and Brenda became the sole owners, building Northgate into one of the finest antique auction companies in the South.
In 1997, Dave expanded his operations, and opened Northgate Gallery of Nashville, where Jeff and Mia continued the family tradition, running one of Nashville’s largest and finest antique stores.
David’s passions in life were Brenda, Mia, Jeff, Gray, and his businesses. His business acumen and work ethic were unsurpassed, and he lived for his next auction, which he conducted monthly for the last 50 years.
The apple of his eye was his grand-daughter, Gray, whom he adored with all of his heart, as he would only slow down to spend time with her, his pride and joy.
Dave had countless friends, customers and colleagues and will be greatly missed by them all. He was a member of the Manchester Park Church of Christ in Hixson.
