Mr. Donald Foster Nicholson

Donald Foster Nicholson, 88, of Hixson passed away at his home on Tuesday, August 10, 2010.

Don was a veteran of the United States Air Force and served in WWII.

He worked as Chairman and President of Austin Garden Center for more than sixty years. Don, throughout the years, served as President of the Chattanooga Landscape Assoc., Vice President of the Tennessee Turfgrass Association, President of the Seedsman’s Association, and Secretary and Treasurer of Commercial Nursery Company of Decherd, TN.

He was an active member of Wesley United Methodist Church. He was also an active member of the Masons for more than fifty years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; mother, Bessie Foster Nicholson; father, Thomas Norman Nicholson, Sr.; brothers, Thomas Norman Nicholson, Jr., and Hubert A. Nicholson

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Blanche Nicholson; daughters Lynn (David) Norman and Sue (David) Blancett; loving grandsons Chad (Mandi) Norman, Clay (Laura) Norman, Hunter (Jessica) Norman and Colyn Shirley; great grandchildren Nick and Thomas Shirley; Jed, Izzy, Parker, Crew, Tag, and Van Norman.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, August 12, 2010 at the North Chapel with the Rev. Curt McKee officiating.

Interment will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery with Military Honors.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 PM today, Wednesday, August 11, 2010 and on Thursday from noon until the time of the service at the North Chapel.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Hospice of Chattanooga or Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church.
