He is survived by Martha Kay Curtis, his “Kay Bird”, his two daughters, Misty Moss (Lonnie) and Crista Partlowe (Steve), his grandchildren, Anna (Gus), Alayna (Andrew), Caroline, Chase, Ella, Miles, and Sam, Kay’s children, Brandy Southerland and Brian Harris, their children, and many grands and great-grands, his two siblings, Ronald Curtis (Joanne) and Sandra Davenport (John) and many nieces and nephews.
Doug was born December 9, 1946, to Mary Ethel and Roy Curtis, in Greensboro, NC. He was the middle child of three. He attended North Carolina State University where he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity and received a degree in Chemical Textiles. Shortly after college he moved to Chattanooga and spent most of his career at Holt Textile Sales in Dalton, Ga.
Doug shared a love for boating, the beach, snow skiing, water skiing, basketball, his Wolfpacks and his sweet dog Lexie, but his most favorite place to be was on the golf course. Whether it be at Chattanooga Golf and Country Club or Sandestin at Burnt Pine, he always had a slew of friends to play with. He loved his boys golfing trips and his yearly trip to Pinehurst with the CTGA. Doug was a member of Hixson First Baptist Church, served on the Board and was Treasurer for the Carpet Trade Golf Association, was on the Board of Directors at Chattanooga Golf and Country Club, a member of the Wolfpack Club, and served on the Board of Tivoli Terrace in Sandestin.
We would like to thank all of Doug’s wonderful family and friends for their support, Chi Memorial Hospital, and Life Care Center of Hixson. “Junior”, as his friends called him, will truly be missed by all.
We will be receiving friends July 11th from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory & Florist-North Chapel, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, TN 37343, followed by a memorial service at 5:00 PM.
