Effie Alene Howell, departed this life on November 24, 21010 at her home with family members at her side, and is in her Heavenly home with her Lord & Savior Jesus Christ. She was one of 21 brothers & sisters raised on a farm in Alabama. Moved to Lupton City, TN and then onto Soddy Daisy where she & her husband continued to raise their family and in later years she moved to Cleveland, Tennessee to be next to her daughter.
She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Hixson, Tennessee but has not been able to attend in several years. She had worked at Dixie Yarns in Lupton City, Tennessee, a textile mill in Daisy, Tennessee and the Kingston pencil company in Hixson. In later years she and her sister, Elizabeth served as care givers for elderly patients at various locations in the Chattanooga area. She like making quilts and had won several awards for her work, as well as making some for her family & friends that they will cherish for many years to come. She was a loving mother and enjoyed family gathering. She will be sorely missed by all, especially her daughter, Jackie who was her companion for the last 21 years and care giver of the past two years.
Born on 18 August 1921, in Jackson County, Alabama to John H. White and Essie I. White. Preceded in death by her parents, all of her half brothers and sisters, brothers, Dutch, Ott, George, Calvin and J. B. White; sisters, Evelyn Gather and Elizabeth Stone. Her husband, Charles “Dutch” Howell.
She is survived by her sister, Loraine Haynes, daughter, Jackie Sue (Howell) Bowman; sons, Charles W. “Charlie” Howell, Jr. and Jerry (Peggy) Howell; 10 grandchildren, Brian and Charity Howell, Donnie and Tina Jones, Travis and Nikki Howell, Dion and Kathy Bowman, Stacy and Heather Bowman, Chuck Howell, Jeff Howell, Christy Howell, Debbie and Rick Jones, and James Jones; 13 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM on Saturday and 2 to 3 PM on Sunday at the North Chapel.
Services for Effie Alene will be held at 3 PM on Sunday at the North Chapel with Rev. Ted Painter and Rev. Paul Forgey officiating. Burial will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist.
