

Howard was born in Newark, New Jersey and was a longtime resident of the Signal Mountain area. He served our country in the United States Navy during the Korean War on the USS Putman. Howard was a graduate of Rutgers University and retired from Chattem. He took his family on many vacations, so that his children could experience new and exciting activities, including his love for sailing. He was also an avid golfer and was very active in the youth athletics in the Signal Mountain area for many years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey Joan Ottley; father, Norman F. Ottley; mother and step-father, Marie Ottley Gobeille and Ernest P. Gobeille; brother, Norman F. Ottley, Jr. and step-brother, Ernest P. Gobeille, Jr.
Howard is survived by his sons, Michael H. Ottley and wife Margaret, and Daniel E. Ottley and wife Amabelle; daughter, Karen O. Sticher; grandchildren, Jacob M. Ottley, Jonah H. Ottley, Joel S. Ottley, Josiah D. Ottley, Zachary C. Ottley and Alexis Kate Ottley.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 pm on Monday, November 9, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
A celebration of life service for Howard will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, November 10, at Chattanooga National Cemetery, 1200 Bailey Ave., Chattanooga, TN 37404.
The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made in Howard’s name to the Wounded Warrior Project at www.woundedwarriorproject.org/donate
Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson.
