She was born in Chattanooga to Hobart McKinley Casey and Ethel Pierce Casey.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, Jo Ann was known for her kindness, strength, and unwavering love for her family.
She was a proud graduate of Central High School, where she served as captain of the women’s basketball team during the 1954-1955 season. Jo Ann‘s love for sports carried throughout her life playing on various women’s bowling and softball teams including the Tennessee Senior Olympics women’s softball in 2017.
For more than 20 years, Jo Ann and her beloved husband, Jimmy, shared a love of square dancing, where their passion for dance brought them to lasting friendships, laughter, and countless cherished memories.
She is survived by her children, Michael Coleman, and Sharon Coleman Woodard (Ross) grandchildren, Wayne Ashby (Rachel), James Ashby (Kara), Casey Woodard (Shawna), Emily Woodard, Brittany Ashby (Travis); great grandchildren, Cydnee Stillwell (Hunter) Kurtis Jackson (Indie), Ryan Brumlow, Ethan Brumlow, Elijah Pollock, Alia Ashby, Emma Ashby, Kamiya Leslie, Whitney Ashby, Remy Ashby, Riley Ashby, La’ Travis Frost, and Mikah Saiz; great, great grandson, Luka Jackson.
She was preceded in death by husband, James Allen Coleman; daughters Debra Ann Coleman Turner Scoggins, and Susan Lynn Coleman Ashby; grandchildren, Stephanie Turner Jackson, and William Matthew Turner.
The family will be available for visitation beginning at noon on Monday, February 24, 2025, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home. A service to celebrate her life will follow at 1 pm at the North Chapel.
A graveside service will follow at 2 pm at Chattanooga National Cemetery honoring both James and Jo Ann.
