She was born on June 2, 1940 to the late Willard and Beulah Newman. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, John Milton, daughter, Valerie Milton, grandson, Peyton Freer, great-granddaughter, Alia Forgani and sister, Kathy Smith.
Joan loved tending to her flowers and watching her hummingbirds. She was a great cook and enjoyed canning vegetables from Dad’s garden.
She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchild. She will be greatly missed.
The family would like to say a special thanks to Dr. Elizabeth Close and her Hearth Hospice caregivers, Carly, Brandie, Jenn, Jessica, Marie and Kasey for their loving care.
Survivors include her children, Larry Milton, Mechelle (Tarek) Forgani, Lisa (Kenny) Freer, grandchildren, Amber, Zach and Hannah Forgani and Seth (Brittany) Freer, great- grandson, Maddox Freer, sisters, Carol (Rayburn) Billingsley and Gail Newman and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 10, 2019 at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m., Tuesday, December 10, 2019 in the funeral home with Pastor Ernie Reno officiating. Interment will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hearth Hospice, 513 Georgia Avenue, Chattanooga, TN. 37402.
