

Joel Thomas Lockhart, a cherished and beloved individual, passed away on December 16, 2025, at the age of 78. Born on September 7, 1947, in Tracy City, Tennessee, Joel was the son of the late James "Sandy" Lockhart and Lillie Mae (Layne) Lockhart. He was one of eight siblings, and throughout his life, he exemplified traits of being hard-working, brave, resilient, wise, compassionate, and loyal by all who knew him.
Joel served his country with distinction. He joined the US Army in 1967, bravely serving in the Vietnam War. During his military service, he was awarded several honors, including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was honorably discharged as a Specialist 4 in 1973. After his military career, Joel became the owner of Lockhart Concrete Finishing, a business he successfully ran for over 40 years.
A resident of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Joel was a devoted family man, raising two daughters. He delighted in family trips to Gatlinburg and Fall Creek Falls during the summer, creating lasting memories with his daughters.
In his personal time, Joel enjoyed fishing at Grundy Lakes in Tracy City and was an avid collector of guns. He was known for being a great storyteller, sharing his humorous and adventurous tales with friends and family alike.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James L. "Sandy" Lockhart and Lillie Mae (Layne) Lockhart and 6 siblings.
Here to continue Joel's legacy are his two daughters, Kristy LeAnn (Ken Anderson) Lockhart and JoeLynn Jasmine Faith Lockhart; brother, Larry (Cindy) Lockhart; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Joel's Life will be held Sunday, December 21, 2025 at 2:00 pm at Chattanooga Funeral Home - North with Rev. Kenneth McElhaney officiating, 5401 Highway 153 Hixson, TN 37343.
Joel Thomas Lockhart's life was a testament to his loyalty and honesty, and he will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
