Joyce Hewitt

Her heart was broken by the death of her sweet grandson Cameron Bean who was hit by a car while out for a run on September 19, 2015, and died on September 21, 2015.

Joyce was a lifelong resident of the Falling Water Community. She graduated from Red Back High School. She worked for many years and retired from Chattanooga Area Schools Federal Credit Union. Joyce was a member of Falling Water Baptist Church, where she worshipped her entire life. She loved her Sunday School Class and everyone in that class. She also enjoyed her friends in her exercise class at RBUMC.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents Ab and Mabel Selcer; brother and sister-in-law Bud and Dorothy Selcer; sister and brother-in-law William and Polly Merriman; infant son John Richard Hewitt and grandson Cameron Mark Bean.

Joyce is survived by her husband of 62 years John Hewitt; daughter Lisa (Steve) Bean; son Greg ( Karen) Hewitt; grandson Chris ( Leslie) Bean and was looking forward to her first great grandchild in May of 2016; granddaughter Hillary ( Matt) Holt and grandson Jonathan Hewitt. Her niece Regina ( Richard) Sass; nephews Lamar ( Sharon) Selcer, Rodney ( Karen) Selcer and their children.

She could not have been a better wife to John. She loved him and spoiled him. Because of their love for each other and our family we were blessed with so many beach trips, birthday dinners, holidays together and spur of the moment get togethers just because we all loved to be together. She also could not have been a better mother, grandmother and mother-in-law. Her grandchildren adored her.

To Dorothy Johnson-Your care and love for our parents is a gift from God.

Visitation for Joyce will be held on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 from 1-2pm at Chattanooga Funeral Home-North Chapel .

Graveside service for Joyce will be conducted at 2:30 pm at Chattanooga National Cemetery on Tuesday, October 20 , 2015

In Lieu of flowers, family request a donation to her Sunday School Class- “The Gleaners”, Falling Water Baptist Church, 523 Roberts Mill Road, Hixson, Tennessee 37343.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Chattanooga Funeral Home-North Chapel, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, TN 37343.
