He was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee on October 9th, 1952 to Ken and Elizabeth Griswold, the third of five children. He spent his childhood years in Soddy Daisy, Tennessee, and teen years in Scottsboro, Alabama before settling permanently in the Chattanooga area. After graduating from Scottsboro High School in 1970, Rick married the love of his life, Mary Maynor. Their union stood the test of time, lasting from December 1971 until his passing.
He was a dedicated and loving father to three children, always stressing the values of family, faith, hard work, honesty, fairness and kindness. He was unabashedly proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchild.
Rick was a skilled Journeyman Electrician, and proud member of I.B.E.W. Local 175. He enjoyed his craft and demonstrated an incredible work ethic. He counted many of his coworkers and union brothers as dear friends.
In his spare time Rick enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching Braves baseball, and, most importantly to him, Alabama football. Many a fall Saturday started in the deer woods and ended watching the Crimson Tide.
Most importantly, Rick was a dedicated Christian. In 2014 he suffered a car accident that forced his early retirement and left him with permanent physical challenges. Enduring many surgeries and complications, his strong faith and good nature were never diminished. He would never stop sharing his love for Jesus, studying his Bible and listening to classic hymns and sermons whenever possible.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ken and Elizabeth Griswold; sisters, Jacqueline Ables and Carolyn Sliger; and brother Mark Griswold.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife, Mary; children, Jeannie (Bo) Suttle, Jonathan (Kayla) Griswold and Jason (Virginia) Griswold; brother, John (Ann) Griswold; grandchildren Molly, Christopher, Grace, Jenna, Ava, Ana, Kristen, and Jason Jr; great-grandchild, Vivienne, as well as sisters in law, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
