Anna Laura Magette, 89, of Wichita Falls passed away Tuesday, August 20, 2013. Visitation will be at 10 am, followed by funeral Services held at 11:30 AM Saturday, August 24, at Chattanooga Funeral Home with Rev. Sam Greer, Senior Pastor of Red Bank Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens in Hixson, Tennessee. Visitation is from 4:00 until 7:00 PM Thursday evening at Hampton Vaughan.
Mrs. Magette was born March 13, 1924, in Rock Island, TN, to the late James Lannis and Lorena Glenn (Chisam) Womack, Sr.. She married Eugene Everette Magette on October 23, 1949, in Chattanooga, TN. Laura worked as the Executive Assistant to the Director of Group Insurance of CIGNA Insurance Co until her retirement. She was an active member of the Baptist church wherever she lived, including Ridgedale and Northside Baptist Churches in Chattanooga, serving in Sunday School, Sunbeams, and on various church committees. She and Gene enjoyed square dancing with the Chatta Squares. She was president of the Manchester Park Garden Club, winning numerous ribbons for her floral arrangements and judging in both club and city-wide shows. Upon moving to Wichita Falls in 2005, she joined Faith Baptist Church where she and Gene were volunteers in the FLIC. Laura was well known for her baking, needlework, and gardening skills as well. She loved her family, especially her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, Gene; her parents; and older brother, James L Womack, Jr. Survivors include daughter, Gene Ann Duyck and husband, Bill, of Wichita Falls; son Tom Magette and wife, Marci, of Severna Park, MD; grandchildren, Jim Duyck and wife, Rishelle, of Wichita Falls; Elizabeth Hernandez and husband, Gil, of Houston, TX; Chris Magette and wife, Sara of Columbia, MD; and Matt Magette and wife, Meghan of Arlington, VA; and four great-grandchildren.
