Linda Rose Fitz Ludington, age 78, was welcomed into heaven on September 14, 2025. Linda was born on April 30, 1947, to Roscoe and Rose Fitz. She grew up in the Red Bank community and went on to study at Carson Newman College. She earned a master’s degree in social work from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.
Linda spent her life serving others as a social worker and retired from the Tennessee Baptist Children’s Home in Chattanooga. She enjoyed singing in the choir and attended Ridgedale Baptist Church.
An avid connoisseur of antiques, Linda’s collections included beautiful teapots, dishes, and angels. She also compiled a vast number of familial mementos and photographs.
In addition to her parents, Linda was predeceased by grandparents Roscoe, Sr. and Herstine Fitz, and Harry and Minnie Sheikowitz.
She is survived by her husband John Ludington, sisters Cheri (Flay) Welch and Loretta Tessmer, stepdaughter Aubry Ludington and her three sons Christian, John Michael, and Joseph Panek, stepson Johnny Ludington, niece Wendy Hunnicutt and nephew Brian (Erin) Welch, as well as numerous great nieces and nephews. Special friends for many years include Marlene Swafford, Teena and Randy Ray, and Ann Grinder.
Special thanks to the staff and residents of Community Care of Rutherford County who provided a “family” to love and care for Linda for the last two years of her life.
There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
A graveside service for Linda will be held at Chattanooga Memorial Park Pond Pavilion on Monday, September 22, at noon.
