

He was born to Marshal and Rachel Sartain on June 16, 1936, in Marion, NC. Robert graduated from White Pine High School and shortly went to serve in the U.S. Navy. After serving 4 years, he went on to marry Annie Rosie Sartain. They moved to Chattanooga with 4 children in the early 70s where he went on to further his education at Tennessee Temple. After graduating with an Associate’s degree in Evangelism, he and Annie went on to have their 5th child. Robert spent his career as an electrician for U.S. Pipe and Foundry. He was a very active member of Calvary Baptist Church of Red Bank where he served by going door to door sharing the Gospel. Robert enjoyed his retirement by driving many places photographing old barns, tending his garden, and playing chess. He was known as for his quick wit and being a social butterfly in his community.
Robert is preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Annie Rosie Sartain; his children, Marion Arthur Sartain, Timothy Marcus Sartain, and Christina Ruth Spuckler; his parents, listed above; and brother, Arthur Sartain.
Survivors include daughters, Selina Constance “Connie” (Lynn) Roark and Valery Ann (Jeffrey) Kinzer; grandchildren, Nathan (Mai) Thorpe, Chelsi (Jamie) Nichols, Jessica Kinzer, Joshua (Tamara) Kinzer, and Duncan Kinzer; great-grandchildren, Richard Thorpe, Raelynn Nichols, Hayden Nichols, Alex Thorpe, and Gavin Harmon; and sisters, Marie Foster and Elizabeth Arnold.
A visitation for Marion will be held Tuesday, January 21, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Chattanooga Funeral Home-North Chapel, 5401 Highway 153, P.O. Box 9, Hixson, TN 37343. A funeral service will occur after the visitation starting at 2:00 pm. A committal will occur Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at Chattanooga Memorial Park, 501 Memorial Dr, Chattanooga, TN 37415.
Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory, and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, TN 37343.
